Community Gardening in 2013

DMSMCA is now accepting applications for the Lipton, Orioles, Jacob Penner and Central Mosque Community Gardens.

We manage over 90 garden plots that are available to anyone who lives in the Daniel McIntyre-St. Matthews neghbourhood. Each plot is free and priority is given to community members who don't have a yard, and to those who have volunteered their time in the gardens in the past.

Lipton Community Garden
This garden is located in a former vacant city park on Lipton near Yarwood and it has eleven plots for community members.

Orioles Community Garden
Located in front of Orioles Community Centre at 444 Burnell Street, this garden has around 30 individual plots. Demand for plots has exceeded available space since its creation. Orioles also has a number of indigenous prairie plant beds, including a butterfly garden, planted by local children last year. It has a message board for communicating with gardeners, a bike rack and a grass sofa and chairs for relaxing with fellow gardeners.

Central Mosque Community Garden
This garden was created in partnership with Winnipeg Central Mosque and is located at 715 Ellice Avenue. There are a few plots open to community members.

Jacob Penner Community Garden
Developed last year in partnership with Spence Neighbourhood Association and the City of Winnipeg. Fifteen plots are available in this beautiful new space for residents of DM/SM and Spence neighbourhoods.

For questions or to get a 2013 garden application, please contact Kemlim at 204-775-7005 or director(at)dmsmca.ca.
